Sitting here beside you, I feel like I’m here by myself

You hand once extended in love, is now withdrawn

I find myself grasping at air

The tangible space, a chasm of loneliness and grief

What was once a shining thing is now tarnished

And perhaps beyond repair

I despair

My heart is shrouded in shame, my principles shattered

I don’t know this person I’ve become

She frightens me

A slight shift, a hand extended, a gentle touch

Love rushes in and fills the void

And stepping across

I rejoice
